Vinales is one of the most beautiful natural environments in Cuba, embedded in “Sierra de los Organos” was declared a National Monument in 1979, was also approved in 1999 as National Park and in December of that year, it was declared by UNESCO World Heritage Humanity, in the category of Cultural Landscape. The 150 square km constituting the Vinales National Park form a unique cultural landscape, the park is managed from the Visitor Center, which is located 2 km before reaching Viñales along the road from Pinar del Rio, the National Park has several excursions which can be arranged directly from the Visitor Center in the municipal museum or travel agencies that are located in the village of Viñales. Among the most prominent are hiking, the trail Cocosolo Palmarito about 11 km, this tour offers great views and opportunities to discover the flora and local fauna. Another interesting excursion is the “Maravillas de Vinales”, which got its start 13 km from Viñales and just 1 km before reaching the Pueblo El Moncada, where the Gran Caverna de Santo Tomas, this trail is ideal for watching birds, it is very important to arrive early in the morning, you can also see endemic plants.

It is a small museum where you walk through a cave (Cueva de San Miguel) showing how the slaves centuries ago were hiding. At the end of the cave there is restaurant with a show of slaves, mostly for bus tours. The cave is known for its discotheque frequented the late week by many locals.

Best things to see and do in Cienfuegos Cuba + Photos

The last April I had the opportunity to visit Cienfuegos, wanted to settle a debt that I had with myself, know one of the most beautiful cities in Cuba and at the same time do some work.

We had planned everything, we would travel in National Omnibus to Cienfuegos and we will stay at Hostal Colonial D+D where we booked for almost a week. We arrived late at night around one o’clock in the morning to the bus terminal after a journey of about 4 hours. Diley the hostess was waiting for us and welcomed us with great sympathy, for first time after several years talking by phone.

Cienfuegos “La ciudad que más me gusta a mi” says a poster of the Bay of Cienfuegos quoting the words of the famous singer Benny Moré. Cienfuegos is known as the Pearl of the South (La Perla del Sur), it is an elegant and relaxed city.

The city is divided into two parts: the historic center, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO and Punta Gorda, a narrow strip of land that is sinking in the waters south of the bay best preserved of Cuba.

The Historical Center of Cienfuegos is a must-see, with wide, straight streets, walks and parks invite you to stroll and enjoy the best attractions and things to see in Cienfuegos.

In many guides and websites you can find that Cienfuegos is a transit  city and only worthwhile for one night, but it really is not, to see all the sights of Cienfuegos need at least 2 or 3 days.

The Palacio de Valle was an architectural whim. In it Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque and Italianate influences combined with the Moorish style that was in vogue in the Spain of the XII and XIII centuries.
